Overview
Davenport's FLEX classrooms are equipped with a SMART board and button panel. Instructors and presenters can use the SMART board to browse the web, share their PC's screen and annotate with digital pens, just like they would on a traditional whiteboard. These rooms also include a Crestron button panel on the wall for easy on-off control of the SMART board and input selection.
FLEX classrooms with SMART boards are located on the Lettinga campus in DeVos 239 and CoB 118 & 218, in Lansing room 408, in Midland room 108, and in Warren room 124.
This article includes basic instructions for using DU's SMART board technology.
Instructions
Button Panel / Wall Plate Instructions
The Crestron button panel in DU classrooms looks like this:

Here's what each button does:
- Display On and Display Off turn the SMART board on and off, respectively. The red lights indicate whether the SMART board is currently on or off.
- The Laptop, PC, and HDMI buttons allow you to choose what you want to display on the SMART board.
- Select Laptop or PC to present the classroom computer's screen. These two buttons are essentially the same thing.
- Select HDMI if you've connected a separate device, like a personal laptop, to the HDMI cable on the instructor station.
- The Vol (volume) buttons adjust classroom speaker volume up or down (some classrooms have a volume knob instead of buttons).
- NOTE: It is often faster and easier to adjust PC audio volume directly from the PC. You can do this by clicking the speaker icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and dragging the volume slider left or right.
- Mute will black out the SMART board display or turn it back on if it is already blacked out.
SMART Board Instructions
The SMART board in equipped classrooms allows instructors and presenters to present their computer's display to the class and annotate on it with digital pens. It also has the ability to browse the web and work with a digital whiteboard via the SMART board's internal apps.
DU's SMART boards look like this:

- The SMART board pictured above is displaying the instructor station PC's screen.
Home Screen: The Home screen (pictured below) has a number of options at the bottom of the screen (including Files, Apps, Input, & Screen Share) as well shortcuts to recent and favorite files and apps.

- Files: Contains whiteboard files, lesson files, PDFs, and screenshots. More information can be found here.
- Apps: Provides access to a number of pre-installed apps, like a web browser and the whiteboard.
- Input: Allows you to connect the instructor station PC or your laptop (via HDMI) to present the computer's video output on the SMART board. More information can be found here.
- Screen Share: This feature does not work for most devices, so we do not recommend using it.
- Clean Up: This option appears in the bottom right corner of the screen if there are recent files listed on the home screen. If you'd like to remove those recent files to get the SMART board ready for another instructor, just tap the Clean Up button.
Home Button: To access the main menu, tap the Home button located underneath the screen at any time.
